CGC Professional Mentor Program

The CGC Professional Mentor Program seeks to build a supportive, growth-oriented environment where CGC members can form mentoring relationships that foster learning, leadership, and community. Structured around mutual respect and shared growth, the program is designed to provide career guidance, promote professional development, and enhance member engagement across all career stages.

How It Works

Each mentee is paired with a mentor for a 12-month cycle (with the option to continue beyond the initial commitment), meeting monthly or every 6–8 weeks. Pairs are matched based on shared interests, professional focus areas, and career goals. Participants receive orientation and guidance materials, with check-ins and feedback surveys throughout the year. The first year will function as a pilot phase to refine logistics and improve processes before a wider launch. Participants are expected to complete brief evaluations at 3-months, mid-cycle, and program end to help improve the program.

Program Guidelines and Participation Expectations

Key Objectives

  • Foster mentorship opportunities: Build meaningful relationships across career stages to create a culture of guidance, learning, and mutual respect.
  • Support professional development: Help mentees clarify career goals, gain insight into the field, and strengthen confidence, while enabling mentors to refine leadership skills.
  • Strengthen community engagement: Deepen CGC member connections through shared purpose, belonging, and long-term involvement.

Mentor and Mentee Responsibilities and Time Commitment

  • Each mentor is matched with no more than two mentees, prioritizing shared interests and career focus areas to maximize the quality of interactions.
  • Virtual mentor-mentee meetings are encouraged monthly, or every 4-6 weeks, with at least three check-ins per pair annually.
  • After matching, there is a one-year commitment for mentor and mentees with the option to renew at the end of one year.
  • Each mentor and mentee will provide a short biography, career goals, and select from areas of interest for mentor/mentee matching purposes. The Peer Program subcommittee will match participants based on shared interests and career focus and the mentee's preference of choice.
  • Mentors and mentees must be able to connect through a virtual meeting platform (i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Google Meet).
